SPAL USA, the North American division of SPAL, has been importing products from Italy since 1989. The company's warehouse and distribution center is housed in a 40,000 square foot building in Ankeny, Iowa. From this location, SPAL USA conducts in-house research/development and engineering that provides value-added systems, components and support for OEM and aftermarket applications, and creates specialty automotive electrical systems and components for application-specific customer needs.
SPAL USA is part of a global company with four main facilities; the North American division, SPAL USA in Iowa; the parent company, SPAL, in Correggio, Italy; a Brazilian division, SPAL Brazil, and an Asian division, SPAL China, in Shanghai.
Founded in Italy, in 1959, SPAL initially specialized in plastic mold design and production. The company has also been designing, producing and marketing high-performance axial fans and centrifugal blowers for mobile equipment manufacturers for more than 30 years. Since 1985, SPAL has been producing a wide range of aftermarket products such as anti-theft devices, backup cameras, monitors, parking sensors, power door lock systems, power window systems and vehicle security.
The headquarters facility in Italy covers an area of more than 270,000 square feet, accommodates over 500 employees and houses the main engineering, research and development, and manufacturing departments. There are six automated production lines in the facility, which has capacity to produce more than 5 million fans and blowers annually.
The goal of SPAL is to build the best products in the market, and they do so by controlling all areas of manufacturing to ensure the highest quality and performance. The constant focus on research/development has earned SPAL an excellent reputation for high quality, state-of-the-art products, evidenced by the company's customer base. SPAL products can be found on everything from European sports cars such as the Ferrari™ Enzo to Polaris™ ATVs, from CAT™ heavy industrial equipment to NASCAR™ Nextel Cup race cars. Other SPAL customers include Bergstrom™, BMW™, Bombardier™, Buell™, Harley-Davidson™, John Deere™, Red Dot™, Thermo King™ and Utilimaster™.
Another SPAL customer is the United States Military. The company produces auxiliary cooling fans for the Humvees utilized in Iraq to withstand the rugged high heat and vibration environments, as well as manufactures fans for the Predator military drone planes, which fly at 70,000 feet altitudes.

SPAL ITALY holds TS16949 certification, which, in conjunction with its ISO 9001 certification, specifies the quality system requirements for the design, development, production and when relevant, installation and servicing of automotive-related products. SPAL USA is also is a member in good standing with the Specialty Equipment Manufacturers Association (SEMA) and Consumer Electronics Association (CEA).
